American Red Cross Presents ‘Save-a-Life Saturday’ Events throughout Red Cross Month

Flyer_SALS2013 March is Red Cross Month, and throughout the month, the American Red Cross Capital Region Chapter will offer free Hands-Only CPR training sessions and Automated External Difibulator (AED) demonstrations as part of Save-a-Life Saturdays!

In addition to Hands-Only CPR and AED, these free public events – to be held in several locations within the Capital region – Red Cross volunteers will be on site sharing information about how to plan for disasters, including how to put together a disaster kit, how to make an emergency plan with your family, and special disaster activities for kids.

“Red Cross Month is an opportunity for us to recognize and thank the everyday heroes in our communities,” said Dawn Angelo, CEO of the American Red Cross Capital Region Chapter. “A big part of being an ‘everyday hero’ is knowing what to do when the time comes, and Save-A-Life Saturdays provide a great opportunity for people to get involved, get trained, and be ready for those hero moments.”

How important is it to be prepared for disasters that can happen at home, the office or at school? A 2010 Red Cross survey found that one in four people (27 percent) have found themselves in a situation where someone needed CPR. Hands-Only CPR is a potentially lifesaving technique involving no mouth-to-mouth contact. It is best used in emergencies where someone has seen another person suddenly collapse. The hands-only technique increases the likelihood of surviving cardiac emergencies that occur outside medical settings.

Save-A-Life Saturday events are scheduled for:

  • Saturday, March 2: Sherwood Mall in Stockton, 10am – 3pm
  • Saturday, March 9: Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto, 8am – 4pm
  • Saturday, March 30: Davis Farmer’s Market in Davis, 8am – 1pm
  • Saturday, April 6: Galleria Mall in Roseville 10am – 6pm
